If you know me, there is no doubt I love plants. I love filling a space with the green lusciousness (is that even a word? It is now) of a plant. If you were to see my home you would think I’ve always had this gift of a green thumb as people put it. But in reality, I used to kill every plant that would come in the care of my hands. Yep, you heard me right.
My family definitely has the gift of “the green thumb”, from my grandparents harvesting fruit trees and taking cuttings from different places and plants they admire along the way (sorry Mima) down to my mom and aunts who share the same love of plants.
I admire my grandparent’s garden and even more so now that my knowledge has grown over the years about the care for plants. God has a sense of humor, it was not until my heart was ready to nurture my children and family that God gave me this wonderful and peaceful gift of “The Green Thumb”.
In a world filled with hustle and bustle, there’s something calming about the presence of plants. Their quiet strength, their ability to thrive amidst chaos, and their beauty in all forms captivate my soul and nourish my spirit. As I reflect on my journey with plants, I realize that it’s not just a hobby—it’s a love affair that has enriched my life in countless ways.
From a young age, I’ve been drawn to the outdoor world. Whether it was climbing trees around my childhood home or picking mangoes in my grandmother’s garden, I found joy in nature’s embrace. But it wasn’t until I started bringing plants into my own home that I truly understood the power they hold.
Walking into my home feels like stepping into a lush oasis—a green sanctuary that soothes the soul and lifts the spirit. From towering monsteras and hanging Hoyas to delicate ferns, each plant has its own personality and story.
Caring for plants requires patience and perseverance, reminding me of life’s rhythms and growth. Watching new leaves unfold and branches reach for the sun brings me peace and a deeper connection with God. Each plant teaches me life lessons and most importantly the power of nurturing.
One unexpected joy of my plant journey is the sense of community it has brought. Swapping cuttings, attending plant swaps, and sharing photos online have connected me with fellow plant lovers. In this community, I’ve found support, encouragement, and friendship.
In the quiet moments spent tending to my plants, I find peace, joy, and a deep connection to God who created these beautiful plants himself. Through my love for plants, I’m reminded of the sacredness of all life and the infinite grace that sustains us. In their quiet presence, I hear the voice of God speaking words of love and compassion, inviting me to deepen my faith and trust in His divine providence.
