They say you become like the 5 people you’re closest to, and if you want to test your friendship, or any relationship for that matter, train for a mud run. I’m not even exaggerating, but since August Britt, Janelle, and I have been training together at our new favorite gym Lifetime.
What many don’t know is that Janelle used to be a crossfit trainer back in 2014-2015 and she used to train me into shape. Now that she’s done having babies, she’s getting back to her routine and giving us the extra push we need to achieve our fitness goals. Honestly, we’ve all realized we do it more for our mental health than for vanity. But the reality is that it helps when you hold each other accountable and challenge each other past the limits your mind wants to set for you.
When you’ve struggled with anxiety, like I have, taking care of my physical body allows me to be healthier emotionally and spiritually. The Bible even tells us that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 6:19 therefore we should steward it well and take care of it from the inside out.
Remember those photos of Janelle and I wearing camo and Brittani on an atv in my intro? We used to go mudding on atv’s with a group of the guys I grew up with. In fact, this is actually how Brittani and I met. Well, Janelle was reminiscing about these memories and texted us one morning to see if we’d want to do a mud run. So, we signed up. Little did we know we’d have Annie and her friend Gretta join us.
South Florida had one of the worst heat waves this weekend and let’s just say, we all felt like Moses in the desert. We couldn’t wait to dive deep into the muddy pits, but the best part of doing it together was pushing each other to complete the run. If I’m being really honest we ran for 10 minutes at the beginning and then walked the rest of the way through. BUT we did it!
As we approached the finish line, covered in mud and grinning from ear to ear, a sense of accomplishment washed over us. We had done it. We faced the challenge head-on, supported each other through every obstacle, and held hands to run through the finish line together. It wasn’t about the time it took or the physical toll; it was about the experience, the memories, and the bond we strengthened along the way.
The Mudgirl Run was more than just an event; it was a reminder of the power of friendship and the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones. It was a day filled with laughter, perseverance, and a whole lot of mud. And as we cleaned up and celebrated our achievement, we knew this was just the beginning. We were already planning our next adventure, ready to take on whatever challenges came our way, including the Spartan Race next year.
In your season of singleness take advantage of the experiences you can share with your girl friends. Don’t wait until you have a signifcant other to do all the fun things you can do today. Challenge yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually and in due time you’ll attract who you’re becoming!
