Your Network is Your Net Worth

Hey girls!

There’s a saying that I’m sure you’ve heard of before, but if you haven’t its this simple phrase: “your network is your net worth,” and I’ve come to realize it’s not just about money; it’s about the value that people add to our lives in countless ways. The relationships with our family, friends, and colleagues have an incredible impact on our lives which can be either positive or negative. Whether in our careers or personal lives, the people we surround ourselves with can really make or break our spirits.

Who you Surround Yourself with Matters

When you think about it, our network includes all kinds of people—from the person we grab coffee with in the morning to the mentors who help guide our careers. Each person plays a special part in our lives.

In business, having a strong network is like having a secret tool that can really boost your career. For example, just chatting with someone who works in the same field might lead to a new business idea or partnership. A mentor might introduce you to someone important who could offer you your dream job. These connections can give you insider tips, wise advice, or that one introduction that changes everything.

On a personal level, our network is just as important but in a more heartfelt way. Our friends and family are the ones who cheer us on when we succeed and are there to comfort us when things don’t go as planned. They are the people we relax with, share our worries with, and dream up new plans with. They provide a safe place to be ourselves, whether we’re sharing a laugh or getting through tough times.

Every person in our network helps us out in different ways, giving us support, advice, fun times, and friendship. This mix of relationships not only makes life more enjoyable but also gives us the confidence to handle both good times and bad.

Are you an introvert, extrovert or ambivert?

Over the years, I’ve noticed how some people leave me energized, while others might leave me feeling drained or even anxious. This was a huge lightbulb moment for me. It taught me that I needed to be thoughtful about who I spend my time with if I wanted to maintain my happiness and productivity.

It’s not about cutting people out left and right, but about gravitating towards those who make you feel good about yourself—those who make the tough days a little easier and the good days even better.

How to Build Your Dream Network

Creating a network that enriches your life isn’t something that happens overnight. It takes intention (my word for 2024) and a bit of strategy. Here are some of my go-to tips for building relationships that really add to your life:

  • Reach Out: Go to that networking event. Join that club. Send a text to someone you admire. Sometimes, all it takes is saying hello.
  • Be Helpful: Networking is a two-way street. Always think about how you can help others. It could be as simple as offering feedback, sharing a resource, or lending an ear.
  • Keep in Touch: Relationships flourish with care. A quick check-in here and a coffee date there can keep your connections strong and meaningful.

Quality over Quantity

The  phrase your network is your net worth has become so important in my life because it so beautifully captures the essence of human connections impacting our lives. It’s about quality over quantity. A few good relationships can be worth more than dozens of superficial ones because the best connections bring out the best in us.

Remember, the right people in your life can lift you up and steer you toward success, just as you do for them. They’re not just contacts; they’re partners in this journey of life. As you think about your own network, consider the roles people play and the value they bring.

If you know someone who has made a difference in your life, why not share this post with them as a little thank you? Let’s keep building our networks with kindness and intention, supporting and inspiring one another every step of the way.
